Peterson Sullivan received a Spirit of Caring Award nomination from United Way of King County in the Most Significant Increase category. Last year, we received an award for increasing our pledge contributions by 42%. Thanks to the generous donations from our employees, we were nominated for this award again. Thanks to everyone who participated for their generosity. And special thanks to employee Kelsey Robinson who coordinated so much of our United way campaign!

Matt Matson, Audit partner, has served on the United Way Audit Review Committee for the last seven+ years. Recently, Matt was asked to Chair the Committee, which he accepted. This committee reviews the audits of organizations that receive United Way funding. Matt will do an amazing job handling this responsibility.

Rotary First Harvest

December 30, 2009

Rotary First Harvest work parties offer Peterson Sullivan employees a fun and exciting opportunity to get involved in some real “hands-on” work to benefit hungry families and individuals in our community. The work parties are held the second Saturday of every month from 9:00 am to 12 noon.

On Saturday December 12th, partner John Smolke (who spearheaded the event) and 12 other employees (Jeanne, Matt, Candace, Nicola, Jennifer C, Bob, Chris E, Karmin, Keith, Megan, Asa, and Erik), joined other Rotarians to package frozen pears at the Northwest Harvest warehouse in Kent. A big thanks to everyone for giving their time on a Saturday morning!

On November 10th , 2009, representatives from the United Way of King County and the Coalition for Charitable Choice presented Matt Matson, a director at Peterson Sullivan, with the Outstanding Employee Campaign Award, recognizing Peterson Sullivan’s exceptional giving during the 2008 campaign. Last year, Peterson Sullivan employees raised a total of $9,050 for nonprofit organizations serving the Puget Sound community. Of that total, $6,000 was designated to the United Way of King County, a 42.7% increase over the previous year’s giving.

Page Ahead

August 20, 2009

Nicola and MeganA group of Peterson Sullivan employees gathered after work and visited the offices of Page Ahead, one of our non-profit clients. Page Ahead places new books in the hands of at-risk children through collaborations with schools, social service agencies, preschools, and early childhood centers across Washington State. While it’s the largest child literacy operation in Washington, they operate with only six employees, and four of those are part-time. Volunteer assistance was gladly welcomed!

Our group was divided in two and we did some cutting and folding, putting together the storytime kits for the volunteers to take into the schools with them. Everyone had a great time and it was fun getting to spend time in our client’s offices.

PS Employees visit Page Ahead

Peterson Sullivan employees are very active in our community. Over the last couple of months, we had 14 employees serve 59 hours for various organizations. A few of the groups that benefited were Food Lifeline, Puget Sound Blood Center, Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, and Resolve of Washington. We are proud of our employees who volunteer their time to help make our community a better place to live and work.

We’ll occasionally spotlight one of our employees and their volunteer activities. This time around it’s Mark Raker, who volunteered his time on May 16 and June 17 with the Washington State Board of Accountancy. The Board monitors licensees’ compliance with attest standards under the Quality Assurance Review (“QAR”) Program.  All CPA firms registered or required to be registered with the Board must participate in the QAR Program (unless the firm participates in an independent peer review).  Mark worked as a reviewer for the QAR Annual Desk Review Session, which included a training session, and the review of reports submitted by various CPA firms to the Board. Thank you, Mark, for your efforts!
